LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com)- Sarah Michelle Gellar’s horror flick "The Grudge" hasn’t hit theaters yet, but the former "Buffy" star says she’s keen for a sequel to the Japanese inspired scarefest. "I would go back to Japan in a heartbeat," says Gellar who filmed the "The Grudge" in Tokyo. Although the star admits that at this stage there has been no talk of a sequel. "No, we haven’t really. I mean, knock on wood, but let’s wait until it comes out." "The Grudge," produced by "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi, is a remake of the Japanese film "Ju-On" and is part of a popular Asian horror franchise. Takashi Shimizu, who wrote and directed the original, also directs the English version. The retelling follows the same story about a curse, takes place in Japan, and features some of the original cast from the Japanese film as well as American actors Gellar and Jason Behr. "Ju-On 2" has already been made in Japan. However, other than two core characters, all the others are new. "Tonally, it’s incredibly different. It’s much more in the vein of a ’Scream’ movie," Gellar explains. "It’s about an actress whose career is kind of washing up and she gets this gig sort of like one of the unsolved mystery shows in America. She has to go back and do an interview at the house that no one’s been in since four years ago when [the events of first movie] occurred." Having always been a fan of Asian cinema, Gellar says she loves the idea of being part of the franchise. "I plan to go to Japan to open this one, I tell you that right now, but we don’t open [there] until February. I can’t wait." "The Grudge" opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, Oct. 22. Keywords |
