Director, Joss Whedon, actor Nathan Fillion and actress Summer Glau will be opening Sitges’05 with Serenity, on October 9th.

Academy and Emmy Award nominee scriptwriter, Joss Whedon, creator of the popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show and co-writer of Toy Story, debuts as a director with this science fiction movie, based on the cult TV series also written by him, Firefly.

Written and directed by Whedon, Serenity is produced by Barry Mendel. The cast is from the TV show and includes Nathan Fillion, Gina Torres, Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk, Jewel Staite, Morena Baccarin, Summer Glau, Sean Maher and Ron Glass, along with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Shohreh Aghdashloo.

NATHAN FILLION (Mal Reynolds) played the part of the fake “Ryan” (the soldier they mistake for the missing one) in Saving Private Ryan. He also stars in the independent film Water’s Edge and has performed in others like Dracula 2000, Blast From the Past, Strange and Rich... For the small screen he’s worked on shows like One Life to Live (for which he got an Emmy nomination), Firefly, Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Pasadena, Miss Match, etc.

SUMMER GLAU (River) made her film debut with the teen comedy Sleepover. Born in San Antonio (Texas) she was a premiere ballerina at the Majestic Theatre in shows like Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, The Happy Widow, Peer Gynt or Paint Your Wagon, until a leg injury put an end to her career. Living in Los Angeles she studied acting and began to perform in shows like Firefly, Angel and Cold Case.
