The pretty people and their paparazzi friends invaded the south of France this weekend for the 59th installment of Cannes, the world’s most hoity-toity celluloid affair.

Richard Linklaster’s fictionalized Fast Food Nation screened on Friday and will surely reassure all those sexy anorexic actresses that they’re doing the right thing by not scarfing down double-bacon, gravy-dipped, extra-cheese burgers.

Saturday, An Inconvenient Truth, the Al Gore vehicle about global warming and all its big badness, hits screens, as does Volver, a supernatural drama starring Tom Cruise escapee, Penélope Cruz.

Closing out the weekend on Sunday is Southland Tales, a story of an epic party in the midst of an epic disaster, starring Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Star-studded animated feature Over the Hedge, featuring the voices of Bruce Willis, Steve Carell, William Shatner and Avril Lavigne, also gets its day on the big screen. Watch for all Hollywood A-listers partaking in the baby boom trend (infants are the new Gucci handbag) to show up for its family-friendly fun.
