Whedonverse.org Joss WhedonTAX REFUND ? Don’t forget the Whedonverse !Saturday 15 April 2006, by Webmaster It’s a taxing time of year for Whedon fans in the United States, but this year we get a little extra time because tax day, April 15th, falls on a Saturday. So we have until Monday April 17th to get our tax returns in the mail. Likewise, the Whedonverse Multimedia Project is getting an extention on a fan issued donation challenge. THE CHALLENGE One fan issued the following challenge: if fans can raise $200 in support of the WMP from now until April 15, he will match it with a $200 donation of his own. As of this morning, fans have raised $129.33. Luckily, we’ve been granted an extention. We now have until the end of the day on April 17th to raise the additional $70.67. In addition, any funds raised in excess of the $200 will be matched by the owner of the Whedonverse.org site dollar for dollar. The fan, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been a strong supporter of the Project ever since the early days of the campaign and hopes to encourage other fans to participate in any way they can. THE GOAL The goal of the Whedonverse Multimedia Project is simple: bring the Joss Whedon created worlds of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly/Serenity to those who may not have yet discovered them. It accomplishes this task by donating DVDs of the shows to public libraries, military units, and charitible organizations. In addition, the WMP encourages fans to donate Whedon-related dvds, books, and comics on their own directly to non-profit organizations of their choosing and record their donations in our online tally. OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS Together we’ve been able to donate 169 DVDs to 13 public libraries and 3 military bases. Soon 14 more DVDs will be on their way to a public library in Salisbury, Australia. In addition, fans have made donations of 81 DVDs and 55 books to 25 libraries, 2 non-profits, and 1 military base. REQUESTS FOR THE ’VERSE The following libraries have requested Whedonverse DVDs for their collections: Grande Prairie Public Library - Hazel Crest, Illinois Hays Public Library - Hays, Kansas Ramapo Catskill Library - New York Santa Monica Public Library - California Cookeville Public Library - Cookeville, Tennessee We would love to help them. So if you’re getting a tax refund this year consider using some of it to show your support for the Whedonverse.
