Talks may bring Hollywood films to iTunes (buffy mention)

Thursday 22 June 2006, by Webmaster

Apple Computer Inc. is negotiating with Hollywood studios to offer movie downloads through the iTunes Music Store Web site, according to reports.

Show business trade paper Daily Variety reported that iTunes might begin offering film downloads by the end of 2006, but while Cupertino-based Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) chief executive Steve Jobs reportedly wants to charge a flat price of $9.99 per movie, studio executives want price ranges that reflect the charges at retail stores.

Earlier this month, Apple announced that CBS Corp. will sell episodes of programs such as "CSI" and "Survivor" through the iTunes Music Store.

As with deals with other networks, the CBS (NYSE: CBS) programs are available for $1.99 the day after they appear on television. In October, the company announced a similar deal with Walt Disney Co.’s ABC (NYSE: DIS). Apple also sells shows from the News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) networks, including Fox, FX, and the 20th Century Fox Television library. ITunes also offers older series such as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Lost in Space."
