Zap2it.com The Rock Injures Achilles Tendon, Delays Film (southland tales mention)Saturday 1 July 2006, by Webmaster Dwayne Johnson to undergo surgery and pizza/donut diet The Rock isn’t a Method actor, but perhaps he took training for his latest football-themed comedy a bit too far. The wrestler-turned-actor suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon injury on Monday, June 19 during football practice in preparation for the upcoming Disney film "The Game Plan." The film, which was scheduled to begin production on Monday, June 26 in Boston, will go on temporary hiatus until The Rock, a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson, recovers from the surgery that he will undergo on Friday in Miami. "While this is a setback for our production schedule, we completely support him as he recuperates and look forward to resuming production when Dwayne is fully recovered," says Nina Jacobson, President of Walt Disney Motion Picture Group, in a statement. Johnson, who’s probably acquired a number of injuries from his WWE days, isn’t fazed by his current injury. "I approached this role trying to be as true to the character as possible and the fact is professional athletes train hard and get hurt," he says."My injury, while serious, is unfortunately common with this type of activity. I am so appreciative of the outpouring of support that I have received from Disney, and all those involved with this film." And while Disney notes that Johnson will be in the well-trained hands of "world-class orthopedic surgeon Dr. John W. Uribe," The Rock has his own prescription for recuperation. "I anticipate that with some TLC, pizza and a lot of donuts, I will be making a speedy recovery and will be able to get myself, and everyone who has been working so hard on this production, back to the business of doing what we love most, making movies," he says. In "Game Plan," The Rock stars as an NFL quarterback who’s enjoying his bachelor’s existence until he discovers that he has a 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. His film credits include "The Scorpion King," "The Rundown," "Walking Tall," "Doom" and Richard Kelly’s upcoming "Southland Tales." |
