Mtv.com Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along BlogThe Weekly Whedon previews Dr. Horrible’s TV DebutThursday 18 October 2012, by Webmaster Dr. Horrible is here! Well… he’s almost here. On Tuesday, October 9 at 9pm, “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” will make its television debut on the CW. Joss Whedon’s supervillainous musical actually premiered in the summer of 2008, in three parts, on the interweb. It’s long been available on DVD and iTunes, so the exploits of Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), Penny (Felicia Day) and Moist (Simon Helberg) aren’t exactly fresh additions to the annals of Whedon history. But with Tuesday’s TV appearance, the Evil League of Evil now has the chance to recruit a whole new generation of baddies. “We’re very excited for new eyes to see ‘Dr. Horrible,’” says Maurissa Tancharoen Whedon, one of the brilliant brains behind the Blog (the others are husband Jed and bro-in-laws Joss and Zack). “But we’re also still in awe of how wide the audience has become for ‘Dr. Horrible’ as it exists now.” Rumors of a sequel have been floating around the Whedonverse for years, but recently the buzz has solidified into a genuine move forward. “We’re working on it,” says Tancharoen. Never mind the fact that she’s also working on the gargantuan TV project that is “S.H.I.E.L.D” – even with that show in the mix, Dr. Horrible can’t be stopped. “The goal is that we are going to be shooting next year, and getting the script and everything done at the end of this year," Tancharoen says. “So that is something that we’re actually physically working on now.” You have permission to rejoice, Hammer groupies. The second coming of “Dr. Horrible” is indeed close at hand. And this time, expect extras that are even more impressive than “Commentary! The Musical.” Hints Tancharoen, “We’ll invent something that will make our lives difficult but we’ll also have a grand time doing it.” |
