Knoxnews.com Joss WhedonThe most surprising party of the summer, with Joss WhedonThursday 2 August 2007, by Webmaster I was a guest at the Entertainment Weekly/ Sci-Fi Channel party — located on a rooftop near downtown. The moon was full. The stars were out (in more ways that one), and the candles were lit (like a few of the guests). Unlike the previous night’s Disney Channel gala, in which the weather report called for a cold shoulder from a celebrity "pal" of mine, this was a fun and stress-less evening. Had a chance to chat with J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon, who were confabbing about their experiences in movies. I asked J.J. about helming the new "Star Trek" film. He seems excited. Joss is doing the new "Wonder Woman" flick. When I mentioned Joss’s "WW" project, J.J. told me he wanted to share his war stories from working on "Superman Returns" with Joss. Maybe Joss can learn something from J.J.’s less-than-positive experience on the film. As I sat there talking to J.J., I thought, "gee, this is so much better than talking to some idiot from that show ’Heroes.’" Ooops. Did I write that outloud? Had a long conversation with Colin Ferguson of "Eureka." For some reason, he needed me near — I think to avoid conversation with someone else. I can’t quite recall. I just know I used up all my small talk abilities in that amount of time. Also caught up with former East Tennessean Ben Browder of "Stargate" and "Farscape" fame. He’s looking for work — but found time to visit his mom and dad in East Tennessee last month. Robert Downey Jr. and Liv Tyler were quick in-and-out arrivals. Sarah Silverman and her entourage also came by. Sarah and I have a thing now — she even hugged me. I now have an official crush. This was definitely the party in which to be seen. Even old Stan Lee was still kicking his heels around midnight. Excelisor, indeed! He was flanked by Marvel Comic’s chef dude Joe Quesada and his DC Comics counterpart, Dan Didio. Aside fro, the stargazing, I am not sure what made the party so right — but I am glad I went. I needed this kind of night, where everything seemed to perk right along, no drama, no straining for work purposes and no divas. Now that’s a kick in the pants. |
