Blogs.orlandosentinel.com Buffy The Vampire SlayerThis one for the ScoobiesThursday 21 September 2006, by Webmaster When I see books like The Physics of the Buffyverse, I think two things: 1. Someone has WAY too much time on their hands, and 2. Why didn’t this come out when I was failing physics in college? The science-meets-pop-culture book by Jennifer Ouellette breaks down the science behind all the fights, magic, alternate universes and time warps. The book doesn’t come out until January 2007, but it could be interesting reading for my fellow Buffy fans. I mean, between watching reruns on DVD of course. Despite a deeply seated loathing for all thing requiring balanced equations, I have to say this book is fun — particularly when you learn nifty tidbits like Buffy’s never-ending fight against evil is a metaphor for thermodynamics and how much energy Spike generates when he hits a wall (about 504 joules). Though, I suppose it would expose my superb geekiness if I pointed out that in a chapter on dimensions, the author says the show mentions a dimension of nothing but shrimp. Actually, it’s a dimension without shrimp. (insert uncomfortable amount of silence here). Yeah. Um, I’ll go back to reading now. 1 Message |
