From Parentstv.org Tim MinearTim Minear - "The Inside" Tv Show - PTC file indecency complaintThursday 21 July 2005, by Webmaster Broadcast Showed Forced Sodomy and S&M Fetishes on Prime Time LOS ANGELES - Today, the Parents Television Council (PTC), the nation’s most influential advocacy organization protecting children against sex, violence and profanity in entertainment, filed an indecency complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about the Fox Network television program, The Inside, which aired an episode with themes of forced sodomy and S&M fetishes to prime time viewing audiences. The PTC, on behalf of its over one million members nationwide, has asked the FCC to issue a Notice of Apparent Liability against each Fox affiliate that aired the program. The episode that contained the indecent material originally aired at 9:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific and 8:00 p.m. Central on June 15, 2005. The episode included graphic discussions about the characters’ sexual practices, scenes of a man and woman engaged in S&M role playing, gory images of dismembered and mutilated bodies, and a strongly implied male rape. This program was seen in homes across the country on the Fox Network, and in Washington DC, the program aired on WTTG-TV. According to Nielsen Media Research, at least half a million children viewed the episode. “Graphic scenes of forced sodomy and S&M fetishes are not appropriate for family audiences, and Fox should know better. This episode will fill young minds with horrific images and warped views about sexuality and human relationships, said L. Brent Bozell, president of the PTC. “This is yet another prime example of why Congress needs to pass the Broadcast Decency Enforcement Act, because with the threat of higher fines for indecent content, millions of children could be spared from viewing sexually graphic shows like The Inside because the consequences would hopefully cause Fox to think twice before airing such content.” 5 Forum messages |
