Mtv.com The AvengersTom Hiddleston - "The Avengers" Movie - Mtv.com Video InterviewThursday 5 May 2011, by Webmaster "Thor" arrives in theaters this weekend, bringing not only the god of thunder to the big screen, but his surrounding cast of characters, too. Last week, we received official confirmation that Thor wouldn’t be the only Asgardian to return for "The Avengers," either — as Marvel confirmed that his diabolical adopted brother Loki (and Tom Hiddleston, the actor who played him) will also be a big part of the 2012 superhero team-up event. When MTV News sat down with Hiddleston at the "Thor" press junket, we asked him about the "Avengers" script and how he feels about facing off against not just Thor, but also Iron Man, Hulk, and Captain America, among other Marvel heroes. "It’s like Mission Impossible," said Hiddleston of the famously secretive "Avengers" script review process. "It was delivered to me in my flat in London. I sat down and I read it and my mind exploded." "It is so good and so fun and so huge," he continued. "What Joss Whedon has already done... that screenplay is an achievement in itself." As for how he reacted upon finding out that his character, Loki, would be one of the primary villains in "The Avengers," Hiddleston said it wasn’t easy to find out some of the biggest news of his career and not be able to tell anyone (until now, that is). "I was more excited than I could possibly say," he smiled. "I nearly fell off my chair. The thing is, you want to call all your friends and tell them, but that’s when the red dot appears on your forehead and your life is over. So I had to do a little Loki dance in my flat." While Hiddleston had to stay understandably mum about the details of Loki’s interaction with the Avengers, he did reveal that the trickster god would be a significantly more dangerous threat this time around — which is saying a lot, given what he gets up to in "Thor." "Let’s just say it’s going to take more than Loki’s hunky brother to take him down this time," he laughed. As for which match-up he’s most looking forward to in "Avengers," Hiddleston said each of the team’s members offers a unique threat to the Asgardian villain. "Their characters are so different," he explained. "That’s part of the joy of ’Avengers,’ I think. You bring all these people — uber-scientists and gods and gamma-radiated scientists and a super-soldier from the 1940s — so the skill sets are different. They’re all a match for Loki in different ways." Of course, Hiddleston stopped short of saying whether Loki would be the only villain in "Avengers." That, apparently, is something we might have to wait until 2012 to find out. |
