The combination of the season’s first "Big Brother 5" eviction ceremony and CBS’ usual late evening offerings gave the network a Thursday night rout.

Overall, CBS averaged an 8.0 rating/14, trouncing second place NBC’s 4.5/8. UPN spent the night in third place with a 3.4/6, better than ABC’s 3.1/6 and the 2.1/4 for FOX. The WB was fifth with a 1.5/3 for the night. Among adults 18-49, CBS stayed far ahead with a 3.9 rating. NBC stayed second in the coveted demographic with a 2.6 rating, better than third place UPN’s 1.8 rating. ABC was fourth with a 1.6 rating, beating FOX’s 1.2 and the 0.9 rating for The WB.

CBS swept the night, beginning with the 6.1/12 for "Big Brother 5" in the 8 p.m. hour. NBC got a 4.8/9 out of two episodes of "Will & Grace" to beat UPN’s "WWE Smackdown!" for second. Fourth went to the first part of the finale of ABC’s "Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital," which did a 2.9/6. FOX’s repeat of "North Shore" was fifth with a 2.3/4, with The WB in last with "Pepsi Smash."

The night’s highest rated program was CBS’ "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," which did a 9.5/17 for the 9 p.m. hour. NBC stayed second with its "Will & Grace" reruns, but "Smackdown!" improved to a 3.6/6 for third. "Kingdom Hospital" fizzled to a 2.2/4 in its second hour, still better than FOX’s "Tru Calling." The WB trailed with the 1.6/3 for "Jamie Kennedy Experiment."

At 10 p.m., CBS won with an 8.3/15 for "Without a Trace." CBS moved up to second with the 4.3/8 for "Primetime Thursday." NBC lingered in third with "E.R."
