January 19, 2006 - The WB thinks it has a winning idea for a new film: a story that centers around the vampire Spike (actor James Marsters) from the cult Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series. The biggest hitch is getting Buffy creator Joss Whedon (lately of Firefly and Serenity fame) to agree. The WB’s president of entertainment, David Janollari, explained at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California: "We’d ... love to do a Spike movie with Joss Whedon. [But] Joss Whedon is busy, fast becoming a kind of a big feature filmmaker. He’s currently working on an adaptation of Wonder Woman for Warner Brothers. He’s simply not available to us. But he knows, and you guys all know, the door is open any time that he wants to do that, for us to do that movie." (source: Sci Fi Wire) In addition to Wonder Woman, Whedon also has the supernatural thriller Goner and several comic book series on his agenda. But Whedon has expressed interest in revisiting Buffy in the future, so a Spike film can’t be ruled out. Naturally, fans would hope for appearances by other characters from Buffy and its spin-off, Angel. One potential issue, though, is that it would need to be made fairly soon. Marsters isn’t getting any younger, and the Spike character is supposed to be an ageless vampire, frozen into the physical form he had when he was turned. Keywords12 Forum messages |
