Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Want More Buffy ? Joss Whedon Speaks...
By Brian Linder
Saturday 14 August 2004, by Webmaster
August 13, 2004 - Since Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel left the airwaves, fans have hoped that creator Joss Whedon would resurrect the properties in one form or another. When asked about the possibility of a Buffy movie Whedon recently told IGN FilmForce, "The fans are interested. I’m interested. I don’t think either Sarah or David would want to do it, but there’s about 10 other characters I can name who would be totally worthy of movies. I’m just waiting for somebody to say yay or nay."
Would Whedon, who is currently jockeying to take over the reigns of the X-Men franchise from newly hired Superman helmer Bryan Singer, be interested in directing the flick? "I would certainly be involved," he says. "I would never let one of those stories be told without overseeing it."
And what about the potentially cool possibility of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated series? Whedon says, "A presentation is being made. It hasn’t been bought anywhere, but it’s still in the creating stages, so it’s still a possibility."
Buffy devotees will be pleased. So, tell us which character from the Buffy-verse (other than Buffy or Angel) you’d like to see on the big screen!

I wouldn’t wanna see a Movie without Buffy or Angel in, but I would like to see a movie of "Fray", you know the comic Whedon done a while back about a Slayer in the future. That would be cool.

Faith rocks but eliza dushku is doing Tru Calling. James Marsters seems very willing to do it. Willow would also be good and Cordelia (if she could be resurected)

I would love to see either a movie or a spinoff (Rather a spinoff to be honest) starring James Marsters, Eliza Dushku and Amy Acker all reprising their roles as Spike, Faith and Illyria/Fred. Spike and Illyria could move to another city after stopping the apocalypse and Faith could come along and join them somewhere down the line.
Im thinking along the same lines of Angel Season 1 here, they could put together their own crime fighting/demon hunting business. It would be good to see how Spikes character has gone full circle into Angels way of life and very interesting to watch. But Eliza has Tru Calling to do so i might have to opt for someone else instead... Um, how about Seth Green as Oz again?! He could join the gang and him and Spike could become best friends! Perhaps... Im thinking after Oz’s outbursts in ’New Moon Rising’ he could have now learnt how to control the wolf FULLY, instead of it controlling him. That way it would make a good weapon against the forces of darkness.
I would also want Fred and Illria to be split, Jekyl and Hyde style. That would be very cool to watch. There were rumours of that happening anyway in Angel Season 6 that was never made. Along with Seth coming back. That would have been well sweet, but being as Angel is now DEFINITELY over, all we can hope for is another spinoff.
This whole TV Movie idea sounds kinda lame to me so I hope that they make a series instead. You cant grow to love new characters, or care about the plight of old ones, in a 90 minute programme really can you?
But anyway, I hope some fat cat TV execs read this and go "Wow, this kids gota great idea!" and decide to pick the Buffyverse up for another few years at least. As doubtful as it is, i can always hope. Cant I? Thanks for reading, Darren.

I don’t really see how it would be possible to continue with the Angel characters aftwer the series finale. But maybe a movie with Willow and Giles training more potential slayers. Giles and Willow could hear about the battle at the end of Angel... maybe they can even go Los Angeles and find survivors.
I want Illyria in a movie.

I’d like anyone except Andrew, Jonathan, or Warren, the only three one-dimensional characters in the Buffyverse.
In order of my preference, I’d choose:
Buffy (if SMG was available)
Dawn (wouldn’t it be cool to see her actually use her Gift?)
Spike
Faith
Illyria
Cordelia (death hasn’t ever stopped anyone in the Buffyverse from making later appearances)
Wesley (ditto)
Willow
Angel (If DB could be convinced)
Harmony
Xander
Darla

It HAS to have Willow. As long as Willow is in it, then I’m on board. Spike would be good too, especially since James Marsters is all for it. So I’d say Willow, Spike, Illyria (and yeah, I’m for the split too - and with WIllow’s power around, it could happen!). Imagine how she’ll feel when she finds out Wesley is dead - talk about tears - especiallly if she can remember Illyria’s memories like Illyria remembers hers - knowing that Wes wanted to be "lied" to...
Anyway, Andrew could come back for comedy relief (getting on everyone’s nerves), and cameo by Illyardi Limon (or heck, we know Joss could make her likeable with the right writing - and I’m sure Kennedy
’s matured in the intervening years).
ANyway, a new series of magic, monster fighting, mysteries and demons - all that Jossy-goodness. Set in the Buffyverse, really anything would be good - keep it spooky, interesting, with characters we love and care about (or even hate - so long as we get to KNOW them well enough to feel something - a major part missing in today’s shows is in depth writing).
I’m ready for it - bring on ASAP - we’re all needing our Buffyverse fix!!! :-)

I still want to see Ripper and I also vote for a Willow movie.
Regarding Joss’ remarks, some people have taken his statement than neither Sarah or David would be interested as meaning that he he is saying that they are no longer interested in their characters.
He was specifically talking about TV movies, David has said that he would only be interested in reprising Angel on the big screen and although Sarah has stated in the past that she doesn’t think Buffy works as a feature, I think that she would change her mind if a feature version came to pass.

I want to know what happened. Angel Inc was battling it out in the last ep. The movie should pick up with (some of?) them being rescued by the now really large slayer host including all living BtVS-characters. If any of the actors don’t have time to do the movie they could die in that initial battle. I love ALL the characters and cry for every one who dies. The more I can get the better it is. But I also love the feel of big tears soaking my face so death is a good option too.
A series would be even better. It’d be ok with me whoever dies, just as long as there is either continuity or conclusion.

Faith, Ilyria, Giles, Spike and maybe Willow. The best characters with ambiguity and depth. Shows/movies with them in would be more than just monster shows.

i would like to see a movie based on fray and have willow in it she could get stuck in a mystical thingy during the final battle and when fray finds the scythe it frees her it would be a good way to introduce the world to viewers not familiar with the comic

I think the only realistic idea for a spinoff would be one centered around Connor. I have a hard time believing that Angel and te others survived the final battle which makes Connor one of the only surviving members of Angel’s crew.
It could pick up where Not Fade Away left off and have Connor trying to uncover the final fate of Angel as Wolfram and Hart targets him for revenge on Angel for betraying them.

i don’t think is a good idea Just Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, no spin-off’s an anything else the show is over SMG and Davd B. is they not aviliable So ANY MOVIE! and less a spike spin-off will be the same of ANgel and..c’mon!!

Xander! Totally abused by ME during the final years of BUFFY, he deserves to have a follow-up.
It could have Willow or Faith as the other main character. Obviously, the Willow/Kennedy liaison was nothing deeper than a rebound, so that would definitely be over.

Xander - only the story of how the "normal" one takes the fight into the world alone in Africa (or where ever he might go next) has the potential to be fresh and engaging. The rest of the characters are too predictable - only his potential remains unexplored.

Definitely SPIKE! And also Illyria (better if she and Fred are split into two). Faith would rock, too!

Everybody from BtVS except Spike and Andrew. Definite musts are Buffy, Xander and Faith.
From Angel, Angel, Cordelia (even if she is dead, ressurections happen alot), Wesley, Fred and Lorne. (I’ve only seen through Season 3, but heard about some of Season 5.)
-

I’d like to see the core four (Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles) in any movie, and would prefer if they left the more useless, overblown characters (Spike, The First Evil) out of it.
-
16 August 2004 11:15, by Anonymous
Leave Spike out of it... haven’t liked the character since before season 4 of BTVS. Keep skipping scenes with him in (when re-watching my DVDs) as he’s there for teeny-bopper amusement only.
Make the film better than that - think its one of the reasons the shows started to die off. The initial audience that got hooked during season 1 had grown up - pity the writers didn’t pick up on that.
If you’re going to have Spike in it, stick Andrew in as his sidekick - that way I won’t ever be tempted to watch it. And the franchise can die quietly in the corner, keeping the better characters offscreen where fanfic can do a better job with them.
-
16 August 2004 11:25, by 3D Master
Whatever they do: NO SPIKE, AND NO ANGEL!
Illyria only if she dies and Fred’s brought back.
Then Xander and Giles! The dudes deserves some respect after the crapper they’ve been put through in S7.
Finally, no more: Humans are stupid and useless, only kewl powerzzz count, no matter how sickening selfish and evil he/she is.
-
16 August 2004 12:16, by Daven23000
I vote core four.
Xander, Buffy, Willow and Giles
Make Xander a REAL character again.
Show Buffy some respect and pair her with Xander.
Buy a clue and realize that Spike as a good guy is a ratings killer.
No B/A, Buffy is better than that.
Make The Scoobies friends again.
-
16 August 2004 14:14, by Berb
Gimme Spike, and any and all of the rest, except Buffy and Angel. Least favorite of all the rest would be Ilyria/Fred & Wes. Most favorite would be Faith and Cordy. Willow would be great if she is without Kennedy. Charles Gunn: YES!
Sarah and David’s reluctance are good news to me. The Buffy journey ended on a good and satisfying note, so it feels done. The Angel character was still midstream, but he was so dull that I didn’t care what happened to him, and if he was in it, I’d have to tape the TV movie, so I could fast forward through the boring.

Of course I want more Buffy but first of all more SPIKE, more lovely SPIKE !!!!
-
16 August 2004 16:54, by Lori
Let’s go back to the beginning like we were promised for season seven. The core 4 or 5 if you add Dawn. If not that then go with Xander. He has a lot more potential to go in different directions than any of the others. He’s just a normal guy "fighting the good fight." Which he has proven can be done without magic or superstrength.

Hi.I’m a HUGE fan of Buffy.I mean I think I’m the biggest fan. I totally love it. Buffy is the best, greatest, coolest show ever. My DREAM is that buffy will continue..But my dream is also that it will come out a BUFFY MOVIE. That would be a DREAM,and I know LOTS of people who agrees with me. I really want to see SPIKE (of course) in a buffy movie..and Dawn and Willow. But MOST OF ALL i would like to see Buffy..I mean Sarah..Is that really impossible? why doesn’t she want to continue? By the way I’m from norway..If you can answer my question.plz mail me.smiley_vanessa@yahoo.no. Hugs from the biggest buffy fan

Xander. The normal one who was overlooked and underutilized in the series (especially towards the end). Others I wouldn’t mind seeing again are Giles and a more mature Dawn.

I would love to James Marsters on the screen. I think it would be cool if they bought back Oz ( Seth Green), too! Just do something a little diffrent with the characters.
-
17 August 2004 08:17, by Anonymous
Oh yeah, and if not all that, just the core four. a movie about Buffy Xander Willow and Giles, each given equally interesting and compelling and realistic storylines, each equal time-wise. Get Xander back from his oblivion of s4-7 (was he even in s7?), Giles back from s7 weird&uselessness, Buffy back from total bitca-ness, and just get poor sans-drugs-and-kennedy Willow back

I want SPIKE ,Giles, Xander, Anya, Willow, Kenny and Andrew also clem that would be great you wouldn’t need to see buffy It would be so funy watching all of them defeating evil that would be great!!! PLEASE BRING BACK SPIKE!!!!

This Joss Whedon has always been stupid, but he’s right about one thing. David and Sarah won’t do that. I hope Charisma doesn’t either. I don’t think she will. This guy is nobody without being "the guy who created Buffy" If he didn’t badmouth his actors after they left because he didn’t get his way, maybe they would help him out in the future. Sarah has way to much talent to do Buffy forever.
-
17 August 2004 22:55, by Shaka
How about everyone else? Who needs the two stars?? They were never anyone’s favorites anyway. The supporting characters carried the show and made the stars more interesting. Spike, Willow, Giles, Illyria, Lorne. Those are my top five for the final count.
-
18 August 2004 01:06, by Anonymous
Oh, it has to has to has to be Connor. The biggest unresolved storyline in the Buffyverse is "what happens to the Fang Gang?", and that needs to centre around Connor. Presumably Angel and Spike survived the last battle, presumably saved when Connor (or for that matter Eve or Cordy) got a slayer-team to respond. I imagine Angel is probably out of comission in some way (e.g. crippled saving Spike in battle). That would make the movie a little like "The Zepo" — with the big scenes about Spike/Buffy/Angel off-screen or seen through the eyes of another character. Connor, on the other hand, would be coming to the realization that he truly *is* a champion, and needs to be one full-time, not just when he isn’t busy with his family.
I know Connor had some weak moments, but in the last season of Angel was a real-eye-opener in terms of VK’s actual acting abilities.

18 August 2004 04:46, by Chris Patton
I would have to say that out of all of the Characters left at the end of both shows the only ones that I would be interested in seeing in a movie would be Xander(the man who kept everyone alive and to some degree sane for seven seasons), Dawn(several years older and now part of the group because it her choice to be involved), and Giles(the man who is the father figure and represents some of the best things that the new watchers council should embrace). Maybe the occasional appearance by Faith as an older experienced Slayer.
Willow and Kennedy are played out, there’s nothing left of interest about them any more. Buffy should be left in Italy with whatever morally questionable supternatural thing she currently involved in. With the exception of Gunn, the whole Fang gang is now a waste of airtime.
-
18 August 2004 07:05, by Anonymous
Is this really still a question? We don’t need Buffy and Angel to have a movie, their have been anough stories told about them in their own series... I would love to have Faith, Willow (w/o Kennedy if possible), Giles and of course... can we forget SPIKE!!!!!
Bring SPIKE back!!!
-
18 August 2004 08:16, by Bobert
Well, let’s see. Sarah is too damn selfish to come back as Buffy, the show that gave her her house hold name, but hey. She’s also doing alot of filming for her new movies lately. Why wouldn’t David do it? I think he would be up for it. I would love a Faith movie, God, the only thing better than a pure slayer is a rogue slayer, so why not? I love Eliza Dushku! But, she’s probably too tied up with Tru Calling (which is great by the way). I would love to see a Willow one too, Willow on a spiritual journey after what happened in season 6 with Tara. Maybe Spike too. But Xander is so damn boring I couldn’t care less about him, he should have been off the show years ago. Dawn was a boring character too near the end of the show. Buffy rules!
-

SPIKE!! I mean...what’s not to love?! (nuf said)
I’d also love to see: Andrew (Tom and James have awesome comical chemistry), Xander (the rivals, grr), Illyria (possible love interest for Spike, hmm?), Cordy if possible, and of course for old times sake Dru and Darla!
I’d love to include more, like Lorne, Giles, Gunn, Willow, etc....but if I HAD to choose the before-mentioned are my top picks. :-)

You have got to bring Xander back strong. He has always been my favorite. I would love to see Xander, Willow, Giles and Kenedy in a movie, but a spin off would be awsome!!! (Wesley too)

If Xander is with Spike, and Xander would be doing the right thing, the first thing he’d do is dust Spike.
-
22 August 2004 02:04, by Jennifer
I would love to see Xander, Willow, Giles, Wesley and Spike. Yeah so Wesley is supposedly dead -as if that ever stopped anyone! Illyria could bring an interesting mix as well. With her, Wes and Spike from Angel, and Xander, Willow and Giles from BTVS I think a movie with them would be awesome!
Now Faith could also be an interesting character to add as well -but PLEASE not with Wood. So didn’t like his character, and the same goes for Kennedy. They were just annoying.

Xander. Just... Xander.

Willow, Willow, Willow!!!
Do I have to say more... Okay, Willow needs to go on some kind of wacky adventure. She is the most powerful girl on earth. Or isn’t she...? Will that power corrupt her? Will she become greater than life? Or death?
And having thousands and thousands of slayers in the world... How does that effect the balance between good and evil? What is Willow’s role in all this?
As Wiccan she honors the Goddess, the Mother, but will Willow become the mother of all slayers at her tender age? What does she really want or will she simply go mad?
So Willow and Giles are going to rebuild the Watcher’s council. Xander (is there a Willster without a Xandman) and Andrew join them in the effort and Dawn isn’t far behind. Under Willow’s guidance a coven turns into the new guardians of the slayer and the scythe.
Kennedy will be Willow’s bodyguard, because who ever controls the witch - controls the slayers. Willow can make or bind them with the power of the scythe. This change in relationship lays a strain on their love. Especially when Willow attracts more and more male and female attention then she can handle.
An army of slayers must be a frightening concept for any demon or despotic male - human, humane, humanoid or not. Let’s throw some she-devils in the mix just for the fun of it. Or some Evil Dead (Darla, Dru, Jonathan, Tara, what’s his name). Heck, dig a hole in the planet and find some ancient Hell Gods. The more the merrier.
Will Willow and Giles get to their slayers in time? And is it only the monsters they fear? The world can be a cruel and lonely place for a girl as it is. Even a girl with superpowers. Teen angst meet National Geographic Fanatic / Demony Discovery Channel.
Me thinks they need some help.
And they get it in LA. The Hyperion had been a school for gifted girls for a while, when a visiting Willow hears some ruckus going on in the back alley.
Some strategic fighting and healing spells save the boyz and Illyria from the Hordes of the Underdark. They have a dragon for breakfast.
Gunn and Illyria/Fred get on the council’s bus. Specially when dear old boy Wesley is found traumatized but not dead. The guy took a knife through the throat once and lived; so one in the belly... that’s peanuts.
Angel and Spike go on a some soul searching trip. The old gal took a bite of immortal too many and must come to terms with himself. And who is better suited for keeping a petty Peaches on its rocker then Spike. After a unsuccessful appearance in "A Chorus Line" and a fabulous comeback in "Macbeth" at Broadway they do what they do best: shake their bonbons as slayerettes. Yummy.
Faith, Wood, Riley, Connor, Oz And The Immortal from Italy (who doesn’t use magic... and got bored with Buffy) join the party with some mindblowing cameos. And soon the family is complete to save the world (which is bigger then the US of A and UK).
Anyone with half a mind sees that a movie in this case will not do: a spin-off is the answer. And telling this tale in swift little steps will make the Whedon-verse last forever. Grr... Argh!
