Whedonverse.org Joss WhedonWhedonverse Multimedia Project Farewell FundraiserThursday 12 October 2006, by Webmaster We have accomplished a great deal in the time we’ve worked together to bring Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Serenity to public libraries, but alas its time to say farewell. Let’s go out with a bang! The Whedonverse Multimedia Project was founded in May of 2004. The goal of the project is to donate Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel the Series, and Firefly/Serenity DVDs as well as related merchandise to public libraries and other charitable causes and share the joy of the Whedonverse. It originally started as part of the Mutant Boosters site, then spun off as its own site in November 2004 when Mutant Boosters decided to become Booster Events. The site is set to expire this November and there are no plans to renew it. Before vacating our little corner of cyberspace, please support us in one last fundraiser. First, let’s look at what you’ve already accomplished. Thanks to financial contributions from fan the Project has donated 183 DVDs to 16 public libraries and 3 military bases. In addition, fans donated items directly to organizations of their choosing amounting to an additional 123 DVDs and 55 books to 32 libraries, 2 charitable organizations and 1 military base. It’s been a great honor being a part of this fandom. Now, please help us finish the job and donate today. Here are the remaining libraries on our waiting list: Ramapo Catskill Library in New York needs AtS 1-5, FF, Serenity
The libraries above already have the other Whedonverse DVDs. Those requested above are to complete their collections. In addition, we received the following request: Hello, I am seeking info on receiving a Whedon related DVDs for my library’s collection. I currently work as a Library Assistant for the Trenton Public Library in Trenton, NJ. I help develop the DVD/Video collection for my branch along with other employees. I work at our main branch and by far have the biggest circulation among our 5 branches. Our funding has been severely cut and have been requested to only choose non-fiction titles to purchase. We also pay for popular new DVDs that were theatrically released and has made X amount of money. Which means any titles that may have came from TV or any other media will not be purchased. Our library system is located in an inner-city environment where there is only one privately owned video rental store and no movie theatre. And we are the capital city of New Jersey! Add that along with the fact that the majority of our patrons cannot afford to buy DVDs. We are a major source of entertainment and learning in our community. I have donated a copy of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (movie) on video. I am requesting Buffy (tv show), Angel and/or Firefly. We already have Serenity on DVD and it circulates quite often. If you can help in any way, I (along with my patrons) would most appreciate this. Thank You. Sincerely, Ben Navarro P.S. I was a big fan of Buffy and Firefly when they were on the air. I have bought a few of the collections and have lent them out to (very) trusting friends. We have not been accepting new libraries to our waiting list for some time now because of concerns about our ability to raise the funds to support all the requests we were receiving. If we raise enough, we’ll go ahead and send them DVDs too, or if you’d like to contact us to arrange to donate DVDs directly to them that would be great too. Also, we received 9 Serenity DVDs from fans participating in the Serenity Day event a few months ago. We have libraries on our list who do not have Serenity and we need funds to cover the postage to send them out. Any funds raised in excess of what we need to accomplish these tasks will be donated to the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. I was a member of the group that organized Angel’s Food Drive and promised to donate excess funds to the Food Bank when starting this project. Please donate. Thank you everyone for all your support over the years. |
