Whedonverse Stars share their favorite Halloween costumes

Wednesday 27 October 2010, by Webmaster

I asked some of our favorite TV stars to reveal their favorite Halloween costumes of all time. Here’s what they said:

Chris Colfer (Glee): "I was a Venus Fly Trap when I was 18. My hands were the plant and then I spiked my hair and made it into a fly with wings. I made the costume myself and I won the best costume prize at the party."

Nathan Fillion (Castle): "For a number of years I kept expanding a costume I made of a nine foot tall Grim Reaper with mechanical hands and eyes that lit up with a button. I was just about to add a big set of bat wings that would open up when I realized I was getting a little older and if I ever fell down while on these stilts I would probably never get up."

Stana Katic (Castle): "I was Pippy Longstocking, who I loved from childhood."

David Boreanaz (Bones): "In college, I dressed as The Riddler — all green with question marks all over my body."

William Shatner ($#*! My Dad Says): "The mask from the Halloween movie that was my (modeled after my) face. I wore it myself and scared more people when I took it off."

Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU): "Last year, I was Mary Poppins. My husband went as Bert, and my son August was Spider-Man. We thought he would have made a cool chimney sweep, but what are you going to do?"

Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: SVU): "I was a man who was so drunk that someone had stolen his pants."

David Duchovny (Californication): "I’ve gone as the Burger King the last couple years because the mask completely covers my face. His expressionless face appeals to me, yet he has a gleam in his eye. It’s a little hot in there and plastic smelling, but I can go trick or treating with my children and go unrecognized."

Jimmy Fallon: "The worst was when I dressed as (former Today Show film critic) Gene Shalit when I was ten years old. I had the giant moustache but none of the other kids knew who I was."

Jeff Probst (Survivor): "My brother and I dressed up as Ghostbusters when I was 21 and got kicked out of a bar for using a fake ID."

LL Cool J (NCIS: Los Angeles): "I was Ronald Regan in my Queens neighborhood. I was already making music at the time and I remember my accountant telling me I had to pay less taxes that year because of Reagan."

Christina Hendricks (Mad Men): "I was a really good Harry Potter one year."

Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother): "Last year my husband and I went as a family of kangaroos with my baby daughter sticking out of my pouch."

Nina Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries): "Last year I was Mrs. Willy Wonka with a purple jacket and top hat, but I accidentally left my giant lollipop in my car."

Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries): "I always end up as a guy in a wifebeater, with a mullet and a beer can. Not entirely original, but for some reason I enjoy the hell out of being that guy."

Ian Somerhalder (The Vampire Diaries): "Once in New Orleans, we found these antique masks from the 1800’s. We put them on and I remember feeling this ancient magical energy rush through me."

Steven R. McQueen (The Vampire Diaries): "I was the Raphael Ninja Turtle one year and that’s still the best costume I ever had."

Michael Trevino (The Vampire Diaries): "My friend and I both dressed up as Ghostbusters but I ended up looking more like a robber."

Matt Davis (The Vampire Diaries): "I went trick-or-treating in my birthday suit once."

Katerina Graham (The Vampire Diaries): "I think (executive producer) Kevin Williamson would appreciate knowing that I went as the Scream guy. Parents complained that I was scaring their kids so I had to take the mask off."
