From Whedonverse.org Buffy The Vampire SlayerWhedonverse.org Project Gets Hello From WisconsinMonday 7 March 2005, by Webmaster Note from Wisconsin: We Can Make a Difference The Whedonverse Multimedia Project seeks to donate Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly DVDs to public libraries and other charitable organizations. The Project began by donating to the libraries nominated in our hometown libraries of the stars kick-off campaign. However, the libraries on our waiting list that we really look forward to supporting are the ones who’ve come to us requesting these DVDs. In every fandom there are doubts about what we as a group can accomplish. Often I wonder if the Whedonverse Multimedia Project will really make a difference at all. Not long ago the Project got an email from Wisconsin. It exemplifies the type of e-mail we receive from public libraries interested in our project: Hi, I work at the Horicon Public Library in Horicon, WI. We would love to have any Joss Whedon dvd’s and /or books. Currently only 1 library in our consortium (20+ libraries) has anything (2 Buffy dvd’s) and there is a waiting list of 2-3 months for those. As a Joss Whedon fan and avid supporter of Firefly, (I can’t wait for the movie) Buffy and Angel, I personally would love to see any of these shows exposed to more of the public. Our library strives to have a variety of books, music and dvd/video people may not have been exposed to before to enjoy. I go to many Midwest conventions and have happily addicted many people to all of Joss Whedon’s work (Firefly being one of the most favored once people sat down to really watch it, with Buffy and Angel close behind). I would love to help promote these fantastic shows. Thank you Lynn Laakso While many fans enjoy their Whedonverse DVD collections, there are some places where the DVDs are not as readily available. Imagine someone new to the verse checking out a DVD for the first time. The person waited few months before they could even see the show and after watching and gettting hooked they find out the library does not own the rest of the series or any other Whedon shows. That someone could live in Horicon or perhaps a town near you. We can make a difference. In communities all over the world, public libraries want to provide the kind of entertainment and escapism that the Jossverse has to offer. Circumstances, unfortunately, often hinder many libraries from being able to do so. Whether you choose to contribute to the Project or to donate directly to a library or other charitable organization on your own, please know that your efforts matter. A wise vamp once said: "If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do." The Horicon Public Library has been added to our Project’s waiting list. We will do our best to make a difference for them. 1 Message |
