If you like that country so much while putting down your own, why don’t you go and become a citizen. All Canadians ever do is trash America and Americans, I’ve seen it countless times. I hate it even more when Americans go agree with them. Thursday 25 August 2005, by Anonymous : canada’s healthcare sucks in comparison to america’s? on what grounds? "If you like that country so much while putting down your own, why don’t you go and become a citizen." what are you, 6 years old? i’m sure you blindly and uncondtionally love your precious country, but the rest of us aren’t so stupid. get a grip. Thursday 25 August 2005, by Anonymous : Canada sucks? Exactly what about Canada sucks? The fact that most of the people are considerate and their government doesn’t go around starting wars? You hate Americans who agree with someone criticising America. Surely the best thing to do with a criticism is to listen to it and wonder if it is valid, rather than hating the person that said it just because they aren’t American. And people like you can’t understand WHY over half the world is pissed off with your country! Grow up, listen and THINK!Thursday 25 August 2005, by Anonymous : I agree with the poster above... Canada does suck. I’ve learned something about buffy fans, they sure get riled easily. It doesn’t take much .... people are too thin skinned these days. Friday 26 August 2005, by jo : Aw, don’t be jealous just because we’re better than you Americans. ;) Heh.Friday 26 August 2005, by John : Having been to Canada, I can personally say that they don’t like Americans. I’ve almost gotten into a fist-fight over their trash talking my country. James, if you don’t like America, go become a Canadian citizen and join the liberal ranks that has taken over like a out of control virus. Friday 26 August 2005, by Anonymous : Why is it that Americans always take themselves so seriously? Chill, sit back and watch the Royal Canadian Air Farce! Learn to laugh at yourselves; it’s a gift. The quote DIDN’T say that America sucks, only that there is room for improvement. It works both ways. Why is that a problem? Friday 26 August 2005, by Anonymous : Yo! Europe talking here. This whole discussion sucks, because every country has its faults and shortcomings as well as its advantages. Noone, especially no country or nation is standing above others. We are all just players on someone elseīs set and children of God, or however you want to call this force. On behalf of James, as we all, he is very much allowed to have his own opinion AND to voice it, I thought, you had a free country and democracy?! He never made a secret of the fact, that heīs very opinionated, and we all are free to disagree with him, but donīt try to touch is right to speak freely. It is deeply disturbing, that especially people, who claim to live in the biggest democracy of this world, have to be reminded of every personīs right to voice their own opinion. Live and let live, guys! Peace.Saturday 27 August 2005, by Anonymous : Yes — it’s a great country. After all, the America of today is a country where we’ve decided the rights of the citizenry can be removed simply by using a different name. Where American citizens have been taken literally in the middle of the night and held indefinitely with no charges or trial. This is the "freedom" that our military is working so hard to defend?Saturday 27 August 2005, by Anonymous : Speaking as a Canadian citizen, our health care is in trouble. But we don’t want a system like the US where millions of people don’t have health care. Something in the middle would be good. As for trashing Americans, Canadians are usually polite to everyone and I personally like most of the Americans that I’ve met. BUT alot of Americans are very arrogant and their attitudes aren’t appreciated. That’s why that are not generally well-liked when they visit other countries.Saturday 27 August 2005, by MustangGT500 : Gee I thought that the U.S. was supposed to be about the freedom to express your beliefs. He criticized the way the country is being run, not unlike millions of other people who are doing the same thing. To the attitude of "if you love the country so much, why don’t you go live there?!", I respond: "Grow the hell up!"Saturday 27 August 2005, by Anonymous : "The answer is simple though as far as James’ opinion that the country that many of my family members have died for in all wars sucks then I’m sorry for him. If we suck so bad that nothing can ever be changed then maybe he like so many others should witness life from another country." He didn’t say we "sucked". Don’t put words in other people’s mouth in order to make a strawman argument. It works for Bush but he has the guns, but it won’t for you. And that is such a flawed statement. Take your own advice and go to a country where whenever somebody speaks against the authority, they are misrepresented so the point never gets across and then maybe even silenced forever. Or, you know, grow the hell up. "Yes we are a country where a mother has made herself a political pawn out of grief for her dead son, a soldier. But that what’s great about this country, we have the freedom to take the President head on. Her son dying, while fighting for freedoms that we preciously take for granted, while noble, has been used by his own mother to further an agenda that is little related to the unfortunate circumstance of war." Oh, fuck you. What freedoms is he fighting for? You mean ... if we didn’t go to Iraq then we would have not been free anymore? Sometimes? You aren’t fighting for our freedom, you are just, well, fighting a war. In this case the reason for the fighting (and what we are fighting) is subject to change, but was in the first place done in the name of more than 2,000 deaths when they KNEW it has SHIT to do with it. And maybe it’s these questions and more that makes a grieving mother ask, "why did my baby have to die? Should other people’s?" and alligns herself with groups of people who also aren’t following this whole thing blindly. But I’m sure you know so much better than she, don’t you? And you know what? Your precious Shrub who declaired war and then [sarcasm]bravely and heroically[/sarcasm] send everybody but his own children and family members to fight won’t even talk to her. Instead he rides his bike around on his umpteenth vacation and then makes passive-agressive remarks her way through what can only be described as a Symbolic Mom-off about how another family with sons in Iraq are why there is freedom. What a conniving jerk. But I’m sure he is having Cheney work on his next talking point to use to moralize at everybody who wants answers, so no need to worry. Monday 29 August 2005, by Anonymous : canadaians come to america for their healthcare? Screw you buddy, our health care is free, we dont need to pay to see a doctor.Monday 29 August 2005, by Anonymous : "We have the greatest country on the face of the planet" What a stupid thing to say. Have you been to every other country on the face of the planet to check? No, I bet you’ve never been outside of Ohio. Just because your American parents, teachers, friends, neighbours and GOVERNMENT tell you this doesn’t mean it is true. What about England? Scotland? Australia? Denmark? Japan? Taiwan? Why is America greater than any of them? Just because you’re gullible and tiny-minded enough to believe it? Wednesday 31 August 2005, by Anonymous : Well, that says it all. Your big dream is to fight for a country you love. Why do you dream of FIGHTING? WHO do you dream of fighting? This is what is wrong with your dumb-ass country. You have too many morons who just want to fight FOR NO REASON AT ALL. If there isn’t an "enemy" your Government invents one, and you all step up to die. For what? Freedom? From a non-existent enemy? Why have you got no rational sense? If you want to fight for "freedom" so much, go and stand up to Robert Mugabe and be a REAL hero. The grateful world won’t care if you have a cataract or not.Sunday 4 September 2005, by anonymous - not because I am sacared to put my name but because my name does not matter and I could make a name up anyway, if I wanted (as most people on these things do) : In answer to Kile: Yes, all your sentiments are completely valid and kudos to you for thinking these things through which, alas, seems to be a rarity in people ranting on that America is the greatest country in the world with no justification. Of course you like your home the best. Who doesn’t (apart from the opressed or fleeing refugees)? But just because you think it is the best doesn’t mean it is (which you seem to be able to aknowledge). Yes, the US has the resources to free oppressed people. Alas, it chooses who it frees and who it doesn’t and the reasoning behind this SHOULD be questioned. You go into Afghanistan and Iraq, but not the Balkans (until it is way too late), Rwanda or Zimbabwe when just as many people are being oppressed, murdered and raped. Saddam was doing the same to his country years before Kuwait and for 10 years between the 2 Gulf Wars. Why did all the murdered, raped and oppressed not get any relief from the US during these times? Please ask your government to explain! I am not criticising the poor people who have gone to Iraq because they think they are doing the right thing. I just do not trust the people who decided when and why to send them there. And I don’t trust the opinions of people who unthinkingly think it was the right thing to do just because the leaders of "the greatest country on the face of the planet" (no proof) suddenly told them it had to be done, and done on the pretext of a bunch of lies and misinformation (such as WMDs and that Iraq was linked to the Sept 11 attacks).
