What a douchebag. I’ve learnt way more english (as a second language) from watching Buffy and shows like it than I ever did in school. Also, comparing Buffy and Big Brother just goes to show that this Brendan Nelson has never watched Buffy.

Oh, the article is quite funny.

I, myself, funnily enough, do study Year 12 in Queensland and I don’t think that you can place the blame on television! Life in the senior years are stressful enough and just sometimes you need to relax and hey, presto, tune in to your favourite television show.

If the Education Minister believes students need to be ’smarter’ then think about the employment of more teachers. Teaching has become an undervalued occupation that many are hesitant to undertake - why not offer more incentives? Afterall, if students are not ’to standard’ then this should also reflect the way teachers are teaching! Or perhaps the curriculum does not fully cater for the media entrenched students of today.

It’s a matter of balance and I just don’t believe television shows like Buffy (which is, by the way only available on cable!) are completely ruining the Australian youth!
