Monday 10 April 2006, by DurangoKid : Twenty years ago there was the "revival circuit". Films like "Eraser Head", "Repo Man", and "Zardoz" or some of the Woody Allen comedies would resurface often to a standing room only crowd. The gate was usually a buck or two below the first run houses. That and a burger made a first class cheap date. How many revival houses are left? The VCR and DVD have shut them down. They’ve also made inroads into the first run cinema. $20 plus the crap from the snack bar make up a significant portion of the purchase price of a DVD. Then there’s the parking, gas, sitter, into the mix. All so you can sit there with your feet stuck to the floor waiting for a cell phone to ring. Netflix comes right to my mail box. Going to the movies used to be an occasion, a night out. Some of the old movie theaters were like palaces. Now I feel like a sheep lining up at the barn door waiting to get fleeced. As much as I like Nathan Fillon, my distaste for the "cineplex" and the uncertainty that comes with any film make going to the movies an "iffy" proposition. I miss a few good movies, but I just can’t seem to care. These comments are an anwser to this article : Nathan Fillion - "Slither" Movie - Filmfodder.com Review |
