Monday 22 May 2006, by optimistic : I find it hard to believe that this movie merits such bad reviews. After all, how many movies compete for the desired spot that it got in Canne? Hundreds? Thousands? Every movie that makes it to Canne has to be selected, doesn’t it? If this movie is among only 20 other films, I can only imagine they selected it for a reason. Donnie Darko only made it big when it was released on DVD. Maybe this movie will have the same fate. Either way, I can’t wait to see it :-)Tuesday 23 May 2006, by Anonymous : Now, obviously I’m not 100% sure, having never met the man (I wish) but Richard Kelly strikes me as the type of bloke who writes because he has a genuine passion for writing...not for money or attention. At least, not mainly. If this is the case, then surely it throws all these poor reviews right back at the critics, as the film itself has been said to be a critique on celebrity. Kelly has said what he’s wanted to say, which is clearly something he believes to be important, and whether the audience ’gets it’ and the critics agree with him is beside the point. If he genuinely makes films for the love of films and not because he is trying to impress anybody, then reviews like this seem pointless. Besides, no film can be as bad as what they’re making this out to be.These comments are an anwser to this article : Sarah Michelle Gellar - "Southland Tales" Movie - Variety.com Review |
