In the Season 4 finale, Buffy’s dream was about Dawn coming into her life and such, but she was not revealed until the end of the Season 5 premiere.Friday 9 June 2006, by A fan : What fans? I don’t think any regular viewer thought we were supposed just buy her being there it’s an arc, just as in every season, and resolves by the end. Dawn was the arc of season 5. Did they even watch the show! Plot Mcguffin, every character in fiction is designed to move the story forward, in TV that means within the hour, and while in season six Dawn filled that post, prior to her arrival, most stand alone episodes were based on one or more of the others in peril, it was a show about monsters, peril is kinda key. Dawn was integral to the plot of season 5. She was not a gimmick. Sure she was a brat at first, but she grew on you after a while. Unlike cousin Oliver.
