I hate to say it, given that BtVS is my all time favorite show, but good.

BtVS ended on it’s own terms, and ended strongly. Angel was cut off by the network, and ended less strongly. But, it was clear, by the end, that Joss was losing his magic, as that whole Immortal business demonstrated.

Various proposed spinoffs sounded less and less promising, the Faith and Willow spinoffs, the animated series (Remember the 70s Star Trek Saturday Morning cartoon? No? Consider yourself lucky), and these TV movies. Would we really want to see continuations if they were bad, just cash-ins? Or, is it better to leave a great series as it is?

SMG thought so. She said she’d do another one if the script was great, concerned about future Buffy projects letting the fans down. AH soon began expressing the same concerns. And, judging from how fans reacted to the occasional slump the series would have, their concerns were understandable.

A fully committed Joss Whedon would be promising, but we weren’t getting that. He’s committed to other projects, and was handing this to other people. Whatever we would have gotten, it wouldn’t have been on the level of Becoming 2, Graduation, Hush, Once More With Feeling, or Chosen. And, this is a Fandom that would have demanded no less.
