WTF? No "The Body"? No "Graduation Day"? No "The Wish"? No "Amends" No "Prophecy Girl"? No "Becoming"?

I’d only agree that two of the episodes ("Hush" and "OMWF") were the best episodes of their respective season. Anybody that finds the dreadful fourth season as the season that had the most top episodes in it has got to be kidding me.

Fear, Itself?

You must be kidding.

Bah, A New Man as third best episode ever?!?! What were you smoking when you thought that up? It’s easily in the bottom half of all episodes, if not the bottom quarter. Also, any Top 5 Buffy Episodes list that doesn’t include (a) The Gift and (b) Restless cannot be taken seriously. Throw Becoming in too for that matter. Those are easily the three best episodes ever. Yes, Hush, The Body and Once More, With Feeling all get kudos from critics for being the best written, and they are, *brilliantly* written. But for me, as a fan of the show and the stories themselves, it’s episodes like The Gift and Becoming that I love so much. Hush and OMWF are indeed great episodes, and will be in the top 10, but as that article pointed out, they’re the type of episodes you would show to people who don’t yet appreciate Buffy’s greatness. And even then, of the abstract stand-alone episodes, I would still pick Restless as number 1 any day. My top 5 would be:

The Gift, Becoming, Restless, Fool for Love, Selfless,

Then after that would come the likes of

Graduation Day, Hush, Once More With Feeling, Enemies, Passion,

to complete my top 10.

Uh huh, right. What was this dude smoking? Imo, the 5 best were:

Surprise/Innocence-I think this was when the show really gained momentum. The ultimate tragic love story, the impossible relationship.

Becoming-Three words: Buffy. Kills. Angel. Need I say more?

Hush-There are no words. Literally. I have nothing else to say.

OMWF-Whooda thunk that Joss had it in him? They GOT the MUSTARD OUT!!!!!!

The Body-The ultimate masterpiece. Even people who aren’t fans of the show could relate to this ep, because it shows the human nature in it’s rawest form. No music, no violin soaring to heartrending notes, just 7 people, going through their own personal hell. One of the most beautiful, tragic, best episodes in television history.

I agree with all who said that coming up with a Buffy Top 5 is next to impossible. There’s just so many great episodes, and so many that are great for different reasons. There’s the classicly great ones, the ones that while we may or may not consider them personal favorites, we don’t question why others think they’re the best (sort of the Citizen Kane episodes of Buffydom) — Prophecy Girl, Hush, The Body, The Gift, OMWF. There’s the ones I personally love because I just love the funny — Bewitched Bothered & Bewildered, Beer Bad, Something Blue, Him, Tabula Rasa. There’s the ones that are just so great because of how they highlight a character, or an actor’s ability — The Pack, A New Man, Fool For Love, Doppelgangland, The Zeppo, New Moon Rising. There’s the scary ones (this is a vampire show, after all) — The Pack, Nightmares, Halloween, Fear Itself, Hush, Gingerbread.

I’m sorry, I can’t do it. Just like I had a tough time coming up with five episodes that I would call Buffy’s worst (I came up with three that rated that title, and the other two were really just filler on the list), I can’t whittle it down to just five episodes that I would call the primo best. So many deserve top honors.
