Monday 22 January 2007, by Louis Aletto : I personally commend Mr. Bacon and Mr. Green for their charitable aims, but this initiative also underscores the pathetic apathy on the part of the celebrity world in general. Considering the salaries and accumulated riches, often thrown in our faces, of those in the rarefied strata of movies, sports, and corporate America, I always find it telling that in times of humanitarian crises, and there are plenty to go around here in the U.S. never mind the rest of the world, that the inaction on the part of celebrities reeks of naked greed bordering on the obscene. Mr. Green and Mr. Bacon should use the perfect occasion of a film festival to tweak the collective conscience of their peers, with righteous courage, to set an example of magnaminity of the highest order instead of simply nickling and dime-ing the American public; otherwise, their initiative, however well-intentioned, just suggests another publicity stunt of small consequence.
