You got it right on the nose. I used to be a Spike fan...okay not to say that I’m not. But I’ve always stood that we don’t know who Spike is and that he is basically multi-personality guy because who he is is dependant on his object of obsession. That’s when I started to not like Spike so much, he was this incredible character and then in Season 7 I just couldn’t stand him anymore. Anywho, right on! Great little article!

I’m glad to have him back. Spike represents to me the charm of adaptability to an ever-changing situation. He simply, to use an old expression, ’goes with what he’s got’. If you ask me, more people should exhibit this personality trait. For heaven’s sake - stop brooding and make the best of the situation at hand (*cough*Angel*cough*).

I disagree with this view of my spike He has changed and everyone does so should the character His love for buffy is still apparent but He has figured out the maybe useing his soul now that he has one would be a good thing if he is ever to be human and in the end I want him to get the prize of buffy I love that he is a bad ass /a compasionate person /humourous /and not us forget incredible sexy I believe in Joss and his vision of Spike and where it is going have a little faith and see where this character goes not to just give up!!!!

I agree that buffy shouldnt be with angel or spike but im very happy that spike is back. I couldnt imagine what it would be like if he had stayed buried under sunnydale’s remains.

I agree that Buffy should stay away from both of our favorite souled vampires as having her end up with either one would mean bringing her back into the world of monsters that she’s been trying to escape for so long. Even if whoever she was with was made human again, it’s hard to believe that he would have a normal life (I mean what kind of job could an ex-vampire/hero get in the real world??). On top of that, leaving them both alone would be a far more fitting and realistic way to end the show not to mention much more in the spirit of both Buffy and Angel as no character has been given their true love (yet).

I do however love that Spike is back though I’m not thoroughly convinced that he would be quite so friendly with Angel considering their past as well as the kind of character he has shown so far. But he continues to provide the sarcastic, funny and witty humour we’ve always loved him for and that’s worth watching Angel for!! :D

“Although not as obsessive as some, I am a Spike fan. His character development was fascinating over the six years that he appeared on BUFFY. And, while I am not a fan of Buffy and Spike’s unhealthy relationship . . ."

Are you referring to Buffy and Spike’s S6 relationship? Or their S7 relationship? I would heartily agree that their S6 relationship was unhealthy. But in S7, it was far from unhealthy. In fact, I would say that it was the most mature relationship that both Buffy and Spike had experienced. I suggest that you watch both seasons again and note the difference.

“He was right. Spike was fully aware that Buffy did not, in fact, love him.”

In fact, Spike was wrong. Buffy had fallen in love with Spike by then. Not in the same, teenaged obssessive way that she did with Angel, but she was in love with him. Even Giles and the Potentials knew. Again, watch S7. Don’t pay attention to what Buffy doesn’t say. Pay attention to her mannerisms around Spike.

Before you believe that I wanted those two to end up together, I thought it was best that Buffy didn’t end up with either vampire. And I thought it was most healthy for Spike not to be involved with someone.
