Saturday 11 September 2004, by Bekki, the kiwi from hell : yo, i’m lost. what rumors? its obvious from just reading the transcripts of the comventions Q&A sessions (for us people who can’t afford to go) that he completely loves it. why do some people always have to see the worst in everything? how can they count themselves as fans? sad, sad, ungrateful traitors. :)Monday 13 September 2004, by Pandora : It really makes me sad to read something like this. I’ve never met James as I’ve never been to a convention but as far as I can tell he’s very devoted to his fans. I really hope he’s not too upset about some stupid people trying to spoil the fun for others.Monday 6 December 2004, by Wadjet : Hmm. It seems this happens in every fandom to one or other of the actors. I haven’t seen the runours, thank goodness and I don’t want to see them either. The actors who attend these cons don’t *have* to and AFAIK aren’t paid huge amounts of money to do so. When they do, it’s partly as a ’thank you’ for the support they’ve received from fans of a particular show, but let’s face it, the shows they’re a part of are *jobs* they’ve done. They probably loved doing that job, but it was a job all the same. We also have to remember that these guys are people just like us. They deserve courtesy and respect and appreciation that they sometimes have bad days. There’s a tendency in fandom for people to expect too much from the actors. They’re expected to be ’on form’ for hours on end, to answer the same question as enthusiastically the 150th time they’ve answered it as they did the 1st time. It’s also popular for fans to assume that the actors ’owe’ them. Sure, the show wouldn’t have been as popular without the fans, so the show needs the fans, but without the performances of the actors, the shows wouldn’t be what they are, so the fans need the actors too. It’s a symbiotic relationship. Give the lad a break eh? And don’t put other people off. Besides, cons are a place for meeting friends as well as seeing the actors. For me, seeing the guests is only a small part of it. Enjoy the cons for what they are and take responsibility for your own pleasure. I know it’s hard if you meet your idol and they turn out to be a prat, but remember they have the absolute right to be as big a prat as you.
