Sunday 20 February 2005, by Anonymous : I’m fairly certain this is old news. Plus the series he was talking about didn’t get picked up.Sunday 20 February 2005, by Anonymous : So I’m wondering how DB "staked" a new series when there has never been serious talk of a new series to begin with? It seems to me that all he is doing is stating a fact — "There won’t be a series" — and the headline writer is just taking it from there. "There won’t be a series" is much more the fault of the WB, 20th Century Fox and Joss’ budding movie career (may Serenity succeed beyond our wildest imaginings!) than anything DB said or did. Plus this is from a six-month old interview!Sunday 20 February 2005, by Wolverine68 : We’ve known for almost a year David wasn’t interested in doing any more Angel. he’s Mr. give more money of you want closure now. I am glad to see people are waking to see he is holding Angel back. I personally would just as soon recast the Angel role. I’ll make sure not to watch his new series too. Sunday 20 February 2005, by Newt : I don’t want to sound like a jerk but to me it seems like David Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar both seem intent on NOT doing anything more with the roles that made them famous.m From the interviews I’ve read, I can’t help but to feel that they are too busy being consumed with their own fabulousness to worry about fans of their old series, or to care about what stellar stories could still be told (Movie of the week, new series, etc (I hate saying "spin off" - it implies that it’s less than what spawned it, and we know that any series Joss sets can be so much more than just a "spin off"). To me (and I totally realize I could be completely wrong, so don’t let this start any rumors, k?), but David Boreanaz stating over and over that anything new in Angeldom simply MUST be a feature film or he won’t do it sounds to me like another way of saying "I’d have to get paid big bucks to revisit that role." I mean I’d think a serious actor would be far more concerned with the storyline, quality of writing and the production values and work itself rather than just flat out saying "Movie or nothing. End of discussion." SO here’s a radical notion (for the umpteenth time): As far as I’m concerned, the "sidekicks" are all far more intresting that Angel or Buffy anyway. I know a lot of other fans (if not most of them) feel similarly - so let’s get Willow, Spike, Giles,Faith, Illyria, and maybe even Andrew (for comic relief, of course) and a couple of the new Slayers together for a big ole (i.e. NEW) Whedonverse series! FIll it with mystical forces, witchcraft, vampires, demons, psychic/paranormal/ghosts/slayers learning their way in the world, crazy slayers plotting to overthrow the world into a matriarchal society like the ancient past (and slayers collaborating with members of the coven that occasionally helps them out - a plotline that could shake the viewers and series alliances to their core (and send ratings skyrocketing)!!! Heck, Willow could even resurrect Wesley (that was a mystical death surely? Or at least contact his ghost! And this way it could be a husband and wife team up so they’d both be more likely to sign the dotted line!!!) - maybe they need Wes to explain something that led to Angel and Buffy disappearing (heh heh) that was in the mystical volumes W&H used (maybe one survived and only Wes can use it or something). Giles being shocked at how much Wes has grown, and the constant doubt that Giles may have that Wes went to the dark side (well, he did - but Giles wonders if he truly, completely came back!). Amber Benson could guest star (or return!!!) as Tara. Psycho Slayer Dana could be a rogue always causing problems. Heck, there’s already a whole season of possible storylines and the Season finale for sweeps and it took me 5 seconds to come up with it and I’m not even a writer! See how much potential there is here!!! This would easily be an incredible series all on its own. With so much potential story still to be told attracting new viewers who have so few choices for solid genre shows, and of course, the loyal fan base -add to that PROVEN excellent actors - all you’d need is some Buffy/Angel Writing alumni and a network to give it a minimum of a 2 Season contract (more my demand than that it would need that) and you have the next big cult hit phenomena and ratings sucess! Come on Joss - there are those of us who need these characters...comics and novels aren’t enough (and where is Season 8 in book form BTW??), we need a weekly series to keep us company through life (and help us deal with it), and the warm fuzzy feeling we all get when life’s metaphors are faced, conquered, or at least dealt with by our alter-egos (or the characters we most closely identify with!) on screen every week! :-) You’ve already got enough Star Power with the above named cast that you just do not need SMG or DB. I wish them well, and truly hope they havn’t snubbed their roots, but either way, the Universe that means so much to so many of us can easily go on - and in style! The premise sells itself, the writing, acting and excellent characterization (standard on Buffy & Angel - but sadly so absent or under-regarded on the majority of other shows) keep people coming back for more. And more and more and more! So JOss Whedon, et al, PLEASE get that new series ready for Fall 2005!!! The Power of Choice is yours! :-) Sunday 20 February 2005, by Anonymous : OK, I’m very tired of this "Oh, DB and SMG are evil because they don’t want to continue in the Buffyverse". What do you think if the project you were working on ended - and the Angel project ended without elegance in the companies’ part - and when you are working in something else people who don’t know you said "Oh look, what a bad person who isn’t interested in going back to the previous job". Would you allow someone who don’t know you judge your laboral decisions? Because I would’n. So, I don’t think they need our opinion to make their laboral decisions. They are not their characters, they are people who do a job. Would you like to be obligated to work in a job, even if you were tired of it or if you had better oportunities in another job? Then why are they obligued to repeat the characters? And of course they work for the money. Don’t you? And isn’t Mr. Whedon moving on to other things? In fact, he did it before Angel ended. Let’s face it, Mr, Wedon abandoned Angel a long time before the show ended. So why is he good and the actors are bad? I find the reasons DB gives very logical. Why is he going to go back after how the companies treated the show? I liked the series, they ended, the crew moved on, end of story. I think the actors and writers were very good in their jobs, so I’m interested in their future films or series. I apologize for the grammar mistakes, but English is not my first language. Thank youSunday 20 February 2005, by Anonymous : Are you people nuts. JOSS has no intention of doing TV anytime soon.BTVS as a show has run its course and the WB canceled Angel. The actors have no choice but to move on. They have a right to careers just as much as anyone esle. All this talk is just that TALK to make fans looks STUPID. Everyone works for money if they didnot wed all be VOLUNTEERS. Joss is advancing his career so why shouldnot any other actors. As for what MOST fans want? SPEAK FOR YOURSELVES. I LOVED BUFFY and hated some of the supporting characters. I LOVED Faith but think a spin-off would have failed because well it just would have.Sunday 20 February 2005, by Zoti Bemba :
I don’t think David is looking for more money. I think he knows how much better Angel could be with a movie-level budget. I think he’s very aware of how hurried the TV series production was, even with 20-hour days, and how many corners had to be cut. I think he’s saying that he doesn’t want to see Angel become the next Star Trek, extended beyond any sense or reason so the studio can make more money. I think he is watching out for the fans, but some of us are so quick to pass judgement that they can’t can’t seem to figure that out. JMHO. Monday 21 February 2005, by Greg2600 : I too think that David and Sarah should not come back to the characters, if they consider themselves major movie stars. Notice I said they. Besides, I want Buffy/Angel to return as a feature, it is the next logical step. Now then, the Jossverse definitely should come back. I wouldn’t mind a Spike or Faith series. But I would prefer a brand new show from Joss. Monday 21 February 2005, by Wolverine68 : David staked the hopes of an Angel movie (without recasting) as soon as the show ended. With all the talk of rumours, he said he wasn’t intrested unless the bar was raised, meaing MORE money. Which kind of makes him a cheap hypocrite, cause he had said in past interviews he hopes to do the show for a few more years. I understand wanting to do other works, but he can spend 2 week filming a wrap up movie. Oddly, this article is label for this month. Monday 21 February 2005, by Anonymous : Joss treated his characters in Buffy like shit. It’s time that repairs the damage.Wednesday 23 February 2005, by SUSAN : No one should tell them what they should and shouldnt do...they have lives just like us and needs ....and dreams that need to be full-filled out side Angel and Buffy.....Sorry but its been gone a year now...im looking to the future, maybe there might be a angel and Buffy movie .(Or Spike)...but Im not crying over it,or judging them for their disissions to end Angel...Im supporting them by seeing their movies instead. These comments are an anwser to this article : David Boreanaz staked any chance of Angel in the near future
