ALL HAIL the power of Oprah.

James Frey, who admitted in a public mea culpa on Oprah’s afternoon TV show last month that he made up much of his best-selling memoir A Million Little Pieces, has been dropped by his publisher, Riverhead Books, Frey’s representative said.

All hail the power of Oprah.

Although Frey wrote A Million Little Pieces for Random House, he moved to Penguin imprint Riverhead Books for his second book, My Friend Leonard. Riverhead contracted Frey to write two more books, one of them a novel, for an undisclosed sum.

Penguin said last month that the deal was "under discussion." Frey’s rep, Lisa Kussell, said the deal had been canceled.

All hail the power of Oprah.

Cruel intentions?

Todd Kevin Wallace, the paparazzo facing charges involving an incident at Disneyland with Reese Witherspoon, won’t have to worry about his court date.

His decomposed body was found in a Brentwood apartment on Feb. 5. The L.A. coroner’s office confirmed yesterday that it was he. Cause of death was not determined.

Wallace allegedly became angry when Witherspoon, her children and her friends declined to be photographed Sept. 2 at Disney’s California Adventure. Wallace reportedly became aggressive, striking a 5-year-old girl with his camera and shoving two park employees out of the way.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges, which could have sent him to jail for 3 ½ years.

He was free pending trial when Anaheim officials requested a bail hearing after learning that he had been arrested on Dec. 5 for allegedly stealing an item from an electronics store. When he didn’t show for the hearing, an arrest warrant was issued.

Wallace served more than four years in prison after a 1993 burglary conviction, according to state corrections records.

Overbrook meets New Delhi

Chicken tikka masala and Bollywood leading lady Aishwarya Rai top Will Smith’s list of favorites in India.

Smith was in India this week to launch Sony Entertainment’s English-language movie channel, Pix, and to be a guest on "Indian Idol," the country’s version of "American Idol."

"Just recently I got to know the number of films Bollywood makes a year - a whopping 800. And each with its share of song, music, dance and drama," he was quoted as saying in the Hindustan Times. "I am simply enticed to be part of it."

Smith said he’d like to explore a possible collaboration between Hollywood and Bollywood, as India’s film industry is known.

As for Rai, who starred in "Bride & Prejudice," "she has a powerful energy," Smith told reporters in Bombay. "I’d love to work with her."

Tattbits

• The Hollywood Reporter says Anne Hathaway("Brokeback Mountain") will be one of the stars of Judd Apatow’s next comedy, "Knocked Up."

There was a time not too long ago when we couldn’t even say "knocked up" in a newspaper. Soon it will be on a marquee.

Apatow ("The 40 Year-Old Virgin") is writing, producing and directing the movie, about a guy who learns he, uh, knocked up his one-night stand.

• In other pretty-young-actress news, the Hollywood Reporter says Jessica Biel will co-star with Nicolas Cage and Julianne Moore in "Next," a sci-fi thriller based on another Philip K. Dick short story.

In this one, Cage plays a man who can see the future and change it - kind of like the TV-series guy who got the next day’s paper or Eliza Dushku working her resurrections in the morgue. With this clairvoyant gift, the FBI wants Cage to help prevent an attack. As the Reporter says, "he ultimately is faced with the choice of saving himself or the world."

Biel plays his love, so you know he’s going to want to save her, too.

• "Next" will be directed by Lee Tamahori ("Die Another Day," "XXX: State of the Union"), who, you might recall, was allegedly dressed in drag when he was arrested in Hollywood on Jan. 8 for allegedly offering an undercover police officer sex for money.

According to TMZ.com, Tamahori pleaded no contest to criminal trespass on the charges. In return, prostitution charges against him were dropped.

His punishment: Three years’ probation, attendance at an AIDS-education course and 15 days’ community service.

• Remember Brian Dunkleman?

Exactly.

Dunkleman admitted to "Inside Edition" Wednesday that it might not have been the best career move to quit as Ryan Sea-crest’s "American Idol" co-host after the show’s first season.

"I wanted to be a performer, not someone who introduced other performers," Dunkleman said.

Dunkleman now performs stand-up in L.A. and is hosting a new Internet fantasy game at idolgohome.com.
