From Theinquirer.net Stargate fansite in trouble with the lawBy Tamlin Magee Wednesday 28 July 2004, by xanderbnd A LOYAL STARGATE SG-1 fan, owner of the popular SG1Archive.com fan site, has had federal charges filed against him, accusing the website of Criminal Copyright Infringement and Trafficking in Counterfeit Services. Adam McGaughey, who’s a long-time fan of the popular MGM sci-fi series, had his apartment raided by the FBI back in May 2002 after MGM and MPAA officials allegedly pressed the FBI to pursuing criminal charges. According to his own site, much of his equipment that was seized by the FBI was returned much later than promised, and when it was returned, it was damaged - apparently, some beyond repair. SG1archive.com says Adam’s received positive feedback and kind words from the Stargate cast and crew at conventions, as well as an MGM representative having interviewed him about the site - so he was unsuspecting that the bigwigs at MGM would have a problem with the site. |
