411mania.com Two Tivos To Paradise (david boreanaz mention)Al Norton Friday 17 November 2006, by Webmaster People Say I’m Crazy Doing What I’m Doing. Well, They Give Me All Kinds Of Warnings To Save Me From Ruin What’s flashed before my eyes the last seven ...Let’s start with the week’s two new shows...Day Break had me for the first hour but lost me in the second. The breakneck pace of the first half was gripping, and then they simultaneously slowed things down and upped the violence quotient for part two, which was not a good way to go. To piggyback on what Bill Simmons said last week, how could Taye Diggs not reference Groundhog Day when trying to explain to his girlfriend what was going on?...I had mixed feelings about 3 LBS. It wasn’t in the slightest bit noteworthy or original, but the cast carried the hour pretty well anyway. Aside from the obviously talented duo of Tucci and Feuerstein, Griffin Dunne may be the show’s secret weapon. It was great to see guest star Michael O’Neill (The Nine, The West Wing) playing something other than a law enforcement official...Last week’s The Nine was by far the best episode of the season, featuring an Emmy-worthy performance by Tim Daly. The end opened up some interesting possibilities as there is any number of people who could be bugging the house. Let’s hope ABC gives us the chance to find out...Speaking of best episodes of the season, Sunday’s Desperate Housewives may not have had the excitement of the previous week’s supermarket shootout but Dixie Carter’s first appearance as Orson’s Mother as well and the ultra-creepy ending easily made up for it...The new dance craze that is sweeping the nation? The Ugly Betty Twist! LOVED Betty’s celebration moves, although I am still wondering if I am the only one who thinks Walter is a whiny little bitch. Show of hands, who wants Betty to go out with the guy from accounting again?...I have been accused of being too positive about TV sometimes, so take note when I say that last week’s Bones was rather weak. As much fun as it was to see David Boreanaz bust out with some of his old Angel moves, did we really need a storyline involving secret underground boxing matches? Between this, the CSI’s, and the L & O’s, there have been more TV shows with episodes about illegal fighting than there are actual illegal fights. Then again, the first rule of Fight Club is that nobody talks about Fight Club... Alec Baldwin’s 13th appearance as guest host gave SNL it’s funniest episode in years; laugh out loud funny sketches that people are already quoting (Bobby McFerrin raped my Grandmother"), a strong musical performance by Christina Aguilera, and great cameos (Tony Bennett, Paul McCartney, Steve Martin) added up to a buzz the show hasn’t had in recent memory ...Law And Order was a little late in incorporating the Girls Gone Wild video craze into a story but that didn’t make the episode any less gripping. Even though the verdict is still out on new cast additions Alana De La Garza and Melina Dovish, this is their strongest season of the post-Jerry Orbach era...Forgot to wonder last week what is going on in David E Kelly’s mind these days - two consecutive Boston Legal episodes ended with the possibility of a parent sleeping with one of their children. That’s more than a bit odd. And while I am not fully convinced that Michael J Fox’s character is actually dead, it would have been nice to give him a classier exit than having his head be on display at a real Haunted House...At this rate it will be more of a story when the Veronica Mars streak of quality episode ends than it is for me to keep telling you how great this show is, but allow me to say that this current run of four episodes is the best the show has ever been...Speaking of me beating a dead horse, The Class is flat out funny and those of you who aren’t tuning in are missing a genuinely quirky comedy...How incredible is it that NBC could have Steven Weber and Alec Baldwin nominated for Best Supporting Actor Emmys, both playing the heads of fictional TV networks? Baldwin is always the best thing about 30 Rock, and Weber stole the last week’s Studio 60 right out from under his more high profile co-stars...It was an 80’s NBC reunion on this week’s excellent episode of House, with recurring guest star David Morse (St Elsewhere) joined by John Larroquette (Night Court)... |
